Statement From Mayor Todd Gloria On Solid Waste Management Fee Billing Errors

SAN DIEGO - Mayor Todd Gloria issued the following statement today regarding errors affecting the Solid Waste Management Fee on some property-tax bills:
“Yesterday, I was briefed by City staff about errors affecting the Solid Waste Management Fee on some property-tax bills. San Diegans deserve accurate bills, and this error is unacceptable.
“I have directed the Environmental Services Department to work urgently with the County to identify every affected property, correct the underlying data, and ensure property owners receive accurate bills and clear information about what they should do.
“I have also directed the department to determine how this happened and put safeguards in place to prevent it from happening again.
“San Diegans expect their city government to be accurate and accountable. When we fall short, my responsibility is to acknowledge it, correct it, and make sure it does not happen again. That is exactly what we are doing.
“City staff has committed to transmitting the corrected information to the County today.”
