Photo by Harry (Jimmy) Erickson, 1935

Aerial view of Bishop's School in La Jolla, a college preparatory Episcopalian day school. Bishop's was founded in 1909 by the Right Reverend Joseph Horsfall Johnson, at that time Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, with gifts of land and money by notable philanthropists Ellen Browning Scripps and Virginia Scripps, her half-sister. Originally it was a boarding school for girls only. Now it offers courses for students in the sixth through twelfth grades and has an 8:1 student-teacher ratio. (Photo by Erickson)
