Winners of the 1951 National Public Parks Tennis Tournament - Dick Shea, Dick Doss, Mary-Ann Eilenberger, Linda Mitchell and Dick Smith. The first National Public Parks Tournament was hosted by the city of St. Louis, Missouri in 1923. The 1951 tournament was also in St. Louis. These winners were participants San Diego's Harper Ink Tennis, started in 1935 by Harper Ink, Sr. (1888-1953) to support and assist young tennis players financially. An annual Ink Tournament is still played, now at the Barnes Tennis Center.
