Did you just finish reading a book and are not sure what to read next? No problem! Take a few minutes to fill out the form below and let the library help you. You will receive a personalized list of authors and titles recommended just for you.

Unlike Amazon or Goodreads, your recommended list will be prepared by people and not by machine algorithms. Be forewarned that some of the choices may be quirky, adventurous, whimsical, or all the above.

Who is eligible to participate in MatchBook?

Anyone residing within San Diego County is eligible to request a MatchBook personalized reading list.

When can I expect a response for my customized reading list?

You should receive a response within 7-10 days after you submit your MatchBook request.

Who is creating my personalized reading list?

San Diego Public Library staff with knowledge and expertize in multiple subjects will create your personalized reading list.

How many titles should I expect on my customized reading list?

We will provide around five (5) titles for you to consider and enjoy.

How will you send my customized reading list?

We will reply using the email address you provide in your request.

Will you put the books on hold for me?

We will not automatically put the books on hold for you. Once we reply with your personalized reading list, you may place holds on the items yourself using the library's catalog, or contact us at MatchBook@sandiego.gov or (619) 236-5800 and we will place holds on the items for you.

How often can I request a tailored reading list?

Patrons may request up to one tailored reading list per week. If you’re a parent requesting a list for multiple children, please contact us at MatchBook@sandiego.gov.

Why so many questions in order to create a book list for me?

The more details about your reading preferences that we have, the more we can match your tastes with a list of books tailored just for you.

Why is the library doing this?

We believe that part of the San Diego Public Library’s mission is to foster and build communities around the love of reading. Just as our San Diego Public Library staff provides reading recommendations to library users in person and over the phone, MatchBook is our way of extending that service online.

Will my information be kept confidential?

Your reading profile and the books you request are private matters which shall be kept confidential.
