SAN DIEGO To strengthen the bonds throughout the binational megaregion, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria met virtually with Tijuana Mayor Arturo González Cruz yesterdayto reaffirm their commitment to strengthening economic,cultural and civicties.

The health of San Diego is directly tied to the health of Tijuana, Mayor Gloria said. Families and businesses alike have deep roots in both cities, which makes it more important than ever for the leadership of our two cities to work together through these challenging times, just like we have when tackling major issues such as immigration, cross-border commerce or reducing the sewage from the Tijuana River Valley.

In the midst of the holiday season, the mayors recognized how COVID-19 has gravely impacted San Diego and Tijuana residents and businesses alike. They pledged to promote safety and social distancing to protect the megaregions people as well as the cross-border commerce that is critical to the health of both cities economies.

We understand that during the holidays, people are inclined to gather with family and loved ones, but we are encouraging them not to do so, Mayor González Cruz said. The best way people can show their love and gratitude right now is by staying home and staying safe. This pandemic has been long and hard, and while there are loved ones who are living apart on both sides of the border, we are asking them to remain positive and know theyll be reunited with their families soon enough.Create memories through Zoom and phone calls.

San Diego and Tijuana have a long-standing relationship of cross-border collaboration and economic development. It was important for Mayor Gloria to meet with Mayor González Cruz within his first two weeks in office to keep the momentum going.

Previousmayors in both cities built on the megaregions strong binational ties by advocating on behalf of American and Mexican residents and businesses in Washington D.C., and Mexico City.

Mayor Gloria and Mayor González Cruz plan to continue to advocate in both nations capitols together when it is safe to do so.

Los Alcaldes de San Diego y Tijuana Reafirman Su Compromiso con La Colaboración Transfronteriza y Discuten La Seguridad Durante COVID-19

ALCALDES SE COMPROMETEN A TRABAJAR JUNTOS PARA ABORDAR LOS RETOS BINACIONALES

SAN DIEGO Para fortalecer los vínculos en toda la región binacional, el alcalde de San Diego, Todd Gloria, se reunió virtualmente con el alcalde de Tijuana, Arturo González Cruz, para reafirmar su compromiso de fortalecer los lazos económicos, culturales y cívicos.

"La salud de San Diego está directamente ligada a la salud de Tijuana", dijo el alcalde Gloria. Las familias y las empresas tienen raíces profundas en ambas ciudades, y es más importante que nunca que el liderazgo de nuestras dos ciudades trabajen juntos para poder atravesar estos tiempos tan difíciles, tal como lo hemos venido haciendo cuando luchamos por asuntos importantes como la inmigración, el comercio transfronterizo y la reducción de las aguas residuales del Valle del Río Tijuana".

En medio de la temporada festiva, los alcaldes reconocieron cómo el COVID-19 ha impactado gravemente a los residentes y negocios de San Diego y Tijuana. Se comprometieron a promover la seguridad y medidas de distanciamiento social para proteger a los pobladores de la región binacional, así como al comercio transfronterizo que es fundamental para la salud de las economías de ambas ciudades.

Nosotros entendemos que durante los días festivos, la gente está inclinada a reunirse con la familia y los seres queridos, pero les estamos animando a no hacerlo, dijo el alcalde González Cruz. La mejor manera en que la gente puede mostrar su amor y gratitud ahora mismo es quedarse en casa y mantenerse a salvo. Esta pandemia ha sido larga y dura, y aunque hay seres queridos que viven separados a ambos lados de la frontera, les pedimos que sigan siendo positivos y sepan que se reunirán con sus familias lo antes posible. Crear recuerdos a través de la plataforma de Zoom y llamadas telefónicas.

San Diego y Tijuana tienen una relación prolongada de colaboración transfronteriza y desarrollo económico. Fue importante que el Alcalde Gloria se reuniera con el Alcalde González Cruz dentro de sus primeras dos semanas en el cargo para mantener vivo el impulso. Los alcaldes anteriores de ambas ciudades construyeron fuertes lazos binacionales de la región abogando en nombre de los residentes y negocios Estadounidenses y Mexicanos en Washington D.C., y Ciudad de México. El alcalde Gloria y el alcalde González Cruz tienen intención de darle firme seguimiento en la capital de ambas naciones cuando sea seguro hacerlo.
