The City of San Diego's website has been designed with Section 508 and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) in mind for making web content accessible to people with disabilities (ADA compliance).
To help ensure that people with various access challenges can use our services, the City of San Diego is offering Browsealoud, a multifunctional web accessibility tool, to the public. It includes text-to-speech screen reading, text magnification, and screen masking. These tools will allow the City to extend services to patrons experiencing a variety of access challenges such as low literacy, vision impairment, language barriers, and attention and focus disorders.
All the features are accessible from an easy-to-use, floating toolbar - allowing you to drag and drop it anywhere on screen.
To launch Browsealoud, click the Accessibility Tools link at the top of your screen, then click the Turn audio/vision assist on/off link. Watch the Browsealoud Features video to see Browsealoud in action.
All City standard web pages provide an alternative high contrast view. The high contrast colors are black and yellow. This makes text easier to see and read.
To access high contrast settings, click the Accessibility Tools link at the top of your screen, followed by High.
