The Mira Mesa Recreation Center was dedicated in January 1977. Ten years later on April 3, 1987, the center was named in honor of Gilbert Johnson, who served in numerous public and community capacities including City Councilmember from 1971 to 1977, and deputy mayor in 1975.
From Interstate 15 exit Mira Mesa Boulevard and travel west for approximately 2.5 miles. The center is on the corner of Mira Mesa Boulevard and New Salem Street.
The center is accessible by bus via SDMTS (link is external) Routes 210, 921 and 964.
