Japanese Friendship Garden and Museum – GDP Amendment
Project Background
The Japanese Friendship Garden and Museum (JFGM) proposed General Development Plan (GDP) Amendment project involves the creation and approval of an amended GDP for the existing JFGM leasehold within Balboa Park. The JFGM is located in the East Prado Subarea of the Central Mesa Precise Plan. As part of the GDP amendment process per Council Policy 600-33, input is needed from the community.
Scope of Work
Processing of a GDP amendment through the Balboa Park Committee and the Parks and Recreation Board will be required. The project scope will be explored and finalized as part of the GDP amendment process, in coordination with the community, the Council Office, the Parks & Recreation Department, and other key stakeholders. The proposed scope includes:
Construction of a new 36,000-square-foot Cultural Education Center
Construction of a new Children’s Garden/Pavilion
Entry Plaza improvements
Installation of a Cultural Heritage Exhibit
