Learn to Swim Program

Photo of Children Learning to Swim

The Learn to Swim Program is designed to teach children, teens and adults to swim in a positive, fun and safe environment. The City of San Diego offers year-round swim lessons emphasizing logical skill progression, water safety awareness and endurance.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, City Pools are limited in swim lesson instruction. While staff transition in a safe plan to return to lessons, the following websites have great resources for parents looking to supplement water safety for their families:

Swimming Lesson Registration

Participants must be evaluated by pool staff prior to registration.

If this is the first time registering for lessons with the City of San Diego you will need to contact pool staff to schedule a participant assessment and help create an SDRecConnect account.

Prior to registering, all returning participants will need to confirm with pool staff to ensure the correct prerequisite skills are listed on their SDRecConnect account. Otherwise ActiveNet will not allow you to register for any upper level lessons.

Please contact Pool staff for any questions or assistane prior to registration day.

Fees provide instruction for five hours for group rates and two and a half hours for private lessons.

Please contact the pool of your choice for specific information.

Refund Policy

Patrons should put extra care into the selection of classes. There are NO REFUNDS.

Class transfers or credit toward another aquatic program may be requested and must be authorized by the Pool Manager.

A full refund will be granted only if the class is canceled by the Pool Manager.
