Odi’s Library Day is a bilingual board book perfect for parents and their emerging little readers to build a lifelong connection to libraries and books. In the story, ODI (Opportunity, Discovery, Inspiration) the Coyote visits Central Library for the first time with their parent. During Odi’s visit they receive their first library card, attend a story time where they learn all about kites, discover the Innovation Lab and create their own kite, and finally, Odi is seen flying their kite with their story time friends with the iconic Coronado bridge in the background.

El Día de la Biblioteca de Odi es un libro de cartón bilingüe perfecto para que los padres y sus pequeños lectores crean una conexión con las bibliotecas y los libros. How Odi Was Born | Como nació Odi
How Odi’s Library Day started in and of itself embodies the “O” in ODI in the most wonderful way! (ODI = the San Diego Library’s vision statement: Opportunity. Discovery. Inspiration.) In 2014, after teaming up in a UCSD Extension art class, Hunter and Anisi took a draft of their first children’s book to their local library, where they met Youth Services Librarian Emily Derry! In January 2020, opportunity knocked when Emily came up with the idea for a book published by the library. Anisi was given free rein for the design and creation of the board book. Meanwhile, an adorable coyote family made their home near the nature trail next to Hunter and Anisi’s apartment, and Odi the Coyote was born!
In the story, Odi receives their first library card, enjoys storytime with the librarian, and is able to use the library's resources to build a kite! With clever book design by Mario Correa, and a translation by Ady Huertas, the book was transformed into something uniquely San Diegan. Odi the Coyote was created with the hope that young readers find the inspiration to have their very own library day!

¡Cómo comenzó el Día de la Biblioteca de Odi en sí mismo encarna la "O" en ODI de la manera más maravillosa! (ODI = declaración de la visión de la Biblioteca Pública de San Diego: Oportunidad. Descubrimiento. Inspiración). En 2014, después de formar equipo en una clase de arte de UCSD Extension, Hunter y Anisi llevaron un borrador de su primer libro para niños a su biblioteca local, donde conocieron a la Bibliotecaria de Servicios para Niños y Jóvenes Emily Derry! Hunter Hackett, born a baby, now a storyteller. A native San Diegan, Hunter graduated from California State University, Chico as an international relations major after studying abroad in Chengdu, China. Using his minor in applied computer graphics, he now works as a creative director for the mobile game development company Fer Sure Games. Hunter Hackett, nació bebé y ahora cuenta historias. Anisi Baigude is a Mongolian American illustrator. Anisi loves to draw and has a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from the University of California, San Diego. She works for the library by day and illustrates by night! She hopes to continue to illustrate for many more books.
