Inclement Weather Shelter Program

The Inclement Weather Shelter Program provides additional shelter capacity during inclement weather days. The program is operational generally from November through March.  

Criteria

The program is activated when any of these conditions are met:

The temperature is

50ºF or below

and there is a

40% chance of rain

The temperature is

45ºF or below

regardless of a chance of rain

In exceptional weather conditions, such as one or more inches of rain within 24 hours and sustained high winds

Things to Know

  • Individuals can show up directly to the locations to gain access to a bed
  • Beds opened for inclement weather are on a per night basis 
  • Access to a bed is first-come-first-served
  • Check-in and check-out times may vary by location, but generally, most beds are opened in the late afternoon and must be vacated by early the following morning

Inclement Shelter Locations

Father Joe's Villages Shelter

Up to 123 adult individuals and an additional 11 beds for families with minor children and/or single women

Check-In: 4 p.m. - Throughout the night until full

Check-Out: 5 a.m.

San Diego Rescue Mission

Up to 10 single women - Top Bunk Only

Check-In: 5:30 p.m. - Throughout the night until full

Check-Out: 7 a.m.

Joan Kroc Center

Up to 61 adult individuals and an additional 11 beds for families with minor children and/or single women

Check-In: 4 p.m. - Throughout the night until full

Check-Out: 5 a.m.

Paul Mirabile Center

Up to 62 adult individuals

Check-In: 4 p.m. - Throughout the night until full

Check-Out: 5 a.m.
