Future Civic Leaders
About
The Future Civic Leaders Program is a unique opportunity for middle school and high school students within the ages of 13-15 years of age. We are seeking for young individuals who want to make positive changes in their community and become leaders. Students will meet virtually weekly and in-person occasionally to learn more about local government and improve leadership skills. The FCLs will attend volunteer opportunities, city job shadows, and skill building workshops. This program offers volunteering opportunities that help build professional development while fostering a sense of teamwork with other like-minded individuals. Mission Statement
Our mission is to empower the next generation of leaders through hands-on projects, civic engagement, and service that creates positive change in the City of San Diego.
The Future Civic Leaders Program empowers middle school and high school students to become more confident, engaged leaders by fostering civic responsibility, leadership development, and community involvement. Through hands-on experiences, volunteer service, and exposure to local government, students develop the skills, knowledge, and passion needed to create meaningful, positive change in their communities.
Program Details
Requirements
- 13-15 years of age
- Able to attend weekly virtual meetings
- Keep up with communication
- Able to meet in person sometimes
- Demonstrates interest in community service and leadership
- Living within the 9 districts of the city of San Diego
Workshop Topics
Virtual meetings every Monday from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
- 1st Monday – Learn: Introduce the month’s topic and key concepts.
- 2nd Monday – Practice: Build skills through activities and group discussions.
- 3rd Monday – Apply: Use what was learned in a real-world scenario or team challenge.
- 4th Monday – Reflect: Connect the month’s learning to civic leadership and set a goal for the following month’s topic.
- 5th Monday – No meeting, if applicable.
