Funding for Cultural Affairs

A strong public arts funding system depends on artists, cultural workers, community members, nonprofit leaders, partners, and other people who bring different experience and expertise to the work.
Serve as a Funding Application Review Panelist
- Cultural Affairs recruits artists, cultural practitioners, arts administrators, nonprofit and creative sector professionals, community engaged practitioners, and other people with relevant experience to review eligible arts and culture funding applications.
- Panelists help ensure that applications are reviewed through a peer based process using published criteria. FY28 panels will use the new 100 point pathway specific scoring framework.
- Panelist responsibilities
- Complete required training.
- Review assigned applications independently and on time.
- Score every published criterion using the evidence in the application.
- Provide a short written comment explaining the evidence that most influenced each score.
- Participate in assigned panel meetings and deliberation.
- Disclose conflicts of interest and follow recusal or other safeguards established by Cultural Affairs.
- Evaluate applications based on the published criteria, not personal reputation, outside research, or information not contained in the application.
FY28 recruitment: Application dates, panel dates, eligibility, expected time commitment, and honorarium are in development and will be posted before recruitment opens.
Partner with Cultural Affairs
Creative City is a City plan, but building a stronger creative ecosystem requires partnership across arts and culture, philanthropy, business, education, government, community organizations, and the creative sector.
Cultural Affairs welcomes conversations with organizations and individuals interested in providing workshops, technical assistance, capacity building, artist resources, shared space or infrastructure, professional services, funding partnerships, research, convenings, or other support that could strengthen future programming.
NOTE: Submitting an interest form does not create a commitment or guarantee a City partnership. Cultural Affairs will follow up when the proposed resource aligns with program needs, available staff capacity, funding, and applicable City requirements.
