Funding for Cultural Affairs

Who is applying?
A 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(6) is a federal tax exempt status issued by the IRS. If your organization has an IRS determination letter showing one of these statuses, this is probably you.
Great! You may be able to apply directly to OSP or CCSD.
Next question: What do you want the City to help support?
A fiscal sponsor is an eligible nonprofit organization that agrees to receive and administer grant funds on behalf of another organization or project. You still lead and carry out the project.
Fiscal sponsorship is available through CCSD when all applicable requirements are met.
Next question: Is arts and culture really the heart of this project?
You have reached the individual artist corner of the Cultural Affairs universe!
OSP and CCSD are generally designed for organizations and eligible project producers, rather than individual artists applying for their personal artistic practice.
You may want to explore:
- City Artists
- Capacity Building Initiatives - Individual artist opportunities may include programs such as the Individual Artist Fellowship and San Diego Artist Incubator when available.

Good question! Applicant type can matter, and we do not want you spending hours on an application before confirming eligibility.
