Youth Summit

The City of San Diego Office of Child and Youth Success is hosting the first annual Citywide Youth Summit, in partnership with the San Diego Public Library, Youth Will, Reality Changers, The LGBTQ+ Community Center, and Our Time to Act. The Summit provides an opportunity for young people to be in community, showcase their own experiences and expertise, learn and create together, and access relevant resources.

Effective organizing requires a clear self-description and self-assessment of how and why change is desired and expected. Participants will build self-awareness through an assessment of their personal values and by tapping into community for positive changemaking.

Learn how to overcome self-doubt, build confidence, and develop leadership and professional skills for future success.

This session provides an overview of the climate crisis – who is most affected and responsible? What is environmental racism and examples of local frontline communities? How are different neighborhoods affected? What are tangible ways young people can take action and be involved in climate advocacy?

High school students will participate in an interactive activity to help them: explore their identify and lived experiences; understand youth empowerment and voice; and reflect on opportunities for work, leadership, and community engagement.

Participants will create a vision board to help ground them in a future they see for themselves, including work, career, education, personal and/or social aspirations!

Create a visual blueprint for y our future using cyanotype. Through reflections and creative expression, explore clarity, growth, and the emotional landscape of your goals.

In this reflective and creative workshop, youth write a private “hype letter” to themselves, as if they are speaking to a close friend for encouragement, clarity, or a reminder of their worth.

Participate in individual or group interviews and share reflections from the Summit as well as overall discussions of lived experience as youth in San Diego

YOUTH UNBOUND: Community support & reciprocity
On two large canvasses, youth will reflect and add to a collaborative mind map, connecting words, images, and symbols. Together, participants explore how community is both giving and receiving.

Parking Information and Transit Guide

Free parking is available at Balboa Park for residents that register through the parking portal ahead of time. Non-Residents can park for FREE at the Lower Inspiration Point lot on Presidents Way for up to 3-hours. Free parking is also available in the residential neighborhood surrounding Roosevelt Middle School.
