Police Dispatcher Requirements

In order to become a Police Dispatcher with SDPD you must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum 18 years of age, or 17 with a high school diploma or G.E.D. There is no upper age limit.
  • Have the legal right to work in the United States
  • Present valid state or military issued identification
  • Pass the Computerized Entry Level Dispatching Test
  • Pass a background investigation, including a polygraph test
  • Pass a medical exam

The following are items that will automatically disqualify a candidate:

  • Any felony conviction
  • Any domestic violence charge
  • Candidates who are on parole
  • Candidates who are on probation
