Career Opportunities

The San Diego Police Department offers over 40 different uniformed assignments and over 30 different investigative assignments for sworn Officers and Detectives who meet the respective criteria for each assignment. With nine patrol divisions, Neighborhood Policing and Traffic Divisions, the San Diego Police Department covers 372 square miles for the City of San Diego. The melting pot of diversity in landscape and community is just as prominent within our department as the opportunities it has to offer. Additionally, the San Diego Police Department offers a variety of specialty pay including, but not limited to shift differential, Detective, SWAT, FTO, Bi-Lingual, etc. With uniformed officers typically working a 4/10 schedule (4 work days, 10 hour shifts) and 3 watches (0600-1600, 1400-0000, 2100-0700). Some special assignments may dictate a 3/12 schedule depending on assignment.

Central Division
Central Division serves the neighborhoods of Balboa Park, Barrio Logan, Core-Columbia, Cortez, East Village, Gaslamp, Golden Hill, Grant Hill, Harborview, Horton Plaza, Little Italy, Logan Heights, Marina, Park West, Petco, Sherman Heights, South Park and Stockton.

Mid-City Division
Mid-City Division serves the neighborhoods of Adams North, Aza/lea/Hollywood Park, Burlingame, Castle, Cherokee Point, Chollas Creek, Colina del Sol, Corridor, El Cerrito, Fairmont Park, Fairmont Village, Fox Canyon, Islenair, Kensington, Normal Heights, North Park, Redwood Village, Rolando, Rolando Park, Swan Canyon, Talmadge, Teralta East, and Teralta West.

Southeastern Division
Southeastern Division serves the neighborhoods of Alta Vista, Bay Terrace, Broadway Heights, Chollas View, Emerald Hills, Encanto, Jamacha-Lomita, Lincoln Park, Mountain View, Mount Hope, O'Farrell, Oak Park, Paradise Hills, Ridgeview/Webster, Shelltown, Skyline, Southcrest and Valencia Park.

Eastern Division
Eastern Division serves the neighborhoods of Allied Gardens, Birdland, College East, College West, Del Cerro, Grantville, Kearny Mesa, Lake Murray, Mission Valley East, Qualcomm, San Carlos, Serra Mesa and Tierrasanta.

Northern Division
Northern Division serves the neighborhoods of Bay Ho, Bay Park, Clairemont Mesa East, Clairemont Mesa West, La Jolla, Mission Bay Park, Mission Beach, North Clairemont, Pacific Beach, Torrey Pines and University City.

Northeastern Division
Northeastern Division serves the neighborhoods of Carmel Mountain, Miramar, Miramar Ranch North, Mira Mesa, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Encantada, Rancho Peñasquitos, Sabre Springs, San Pasqual and Scripps Ranch.

Northwestern Division
Northwestern Division serves the neighborhoods of Sorrento Valley, Torrey Preserve, Del Mar Heights, Carmel Valley, North City, Torrey Highlands and Black Mountain Ranch.

Southern Division
Southern Division serves the neighborhoods of Border, Egger Highlands, Nestor, Ocean Crest, Otay Mesa, Otay Mesa West, Palm City, San Ysidro and Tijuana River Valley.

Western Division
Western Division serves the neighborhoods of Hillcrest, La Playa, Linda Vista, Loma Portal, Midtown, Midway District, Mission Hills, Mission Valley West, Morena, Ocean Beach, Old Town, Point Loma Heights, Roseville-Fleetridge, Sunset Cliffs, University Heights and Wooded Area.
