4th Annual Promise Zone Youth-Led Career Expo

The San Diego Promise Zone will be hosting its annual Jobs and Education signature event "Youth-Led Career Expo." The event is for young people ages 16 to 24 who live or go to school in the San Diego Promise Zone.  Youth may discover their passion, gain insights from industry professionals, and connect with peers who share similar aspirations. This event is all about empowering youth and young adults to shape their future and will include resume-building and mock interview practice along with other opportunities. Please consider participating as a student, vendor, or sponsor.

This year's Youth-Led Career Expo includes a variety of unique raffle prizes like refurbished laptops, an iPad Air, restaurant merch, museum tickets, Padres merch, and more. Participants must be between 16 and 24 to qualify for the raffle.

Schools may request funds for free bus transportation by contacting Tara Ryan at TRyan@sandiego.gov in the Office of Child and Youth Success.

  • City of San Diego, Employ & Empower - The City of San Diego’s Employ & Empower paid internship program offers young San Diegans the opportunity to explore diverse public service opportunities, gaining hands-on work experience that makes a real-world impact in their communities. This program is grant-funded by Youth Service Corps, a division of California Volunteers, Office of the Governor. Participants must meet grant eligibility requirements to qualify.
  • City of San Diego, Personnel Department - The City of San Diego provides meaningful public service careers that support the daily needs of our community. With a workforce of more than 13,000 employees, the City offers professional development, career advancement, and a mission-driven environment where individuals can make a real and lasting impact on the lives of residents.
  • Energy Garay Cooperative Network - Food Security Cooperative (FSC), part of the Energy Garay Cooperative Network (nonprofit) builds community resilience in San Diego's Qualified Opportunity Zones by producing culturally inspired ethnic emergency foods (Japanese, Filipino, Mexican, etc.) for long-shelf-life kits, daily hot meals via church partnerships, and home deliveries. We combat food insecurity affecting 26% of residents through sustainable production, Tesla Optimus-assisted teams, and integration with hydroponic farms and solar energy—empowering youth 17+ with training, dual-credit pathways, and co-op membership for a self-sufficient future.
  • Fleet Science Center - The Fleet Science Center is on a mission to realize a San Diego where everyone is connected by the power of science to create a better future. We are a community-focused countywide organization that collaborates with educators, scientific organizations, community leaders and champions of a-ha moments.
  • Goodwill Industries of San Diego County - ABOUT US- Our mission is to provide employment and training opportunities to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. ew ideas in order to improve any aspect of the organization. We are 100 percent local and 100 percent nonprofit.  All of our programs and services are provided at no cost to all San Diego County residents.
  • Harmonium, Inc - Non-Profit organization partnered to staff Youth Programs located on San Diego Unified School Campuses.
  • Modern Times, Inc - Modern Times, Inc. (MTI) is the Jobs Coordinator for the Otay Mesa East Port of Entry project in partnership with SANDAG. MTI supports Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) goals through local workforce outreach, job placement, and compliance, connecting community members to construction jobs, apprenticeship pathways, and union career opportunities.
  • Port of San Diego Ship Repair Association - Association member companies deliver a comprehensive range of ship repair and maintenance services that include conversion, overhaul, and specialized trades such as welding, industrial painting, pipefitting, shipfitting, electrical work, sandblasting, carpentry, and rigging. On large-scale projects, member companies frequently collaborate to share labor and resources, ensuring timely and efficient project completion. All work is performed to the highest quality standards, with many members maintaining ISO certifications for quality management and environmental protection. Core priorities include employee and customer safety, environmental stewardship, workforce training, and customer satisfaction.
  • Salvation Army Kroc Center San Diego - Come experience the fun of summer camp while developing important skills As a Youth Development Leader at the Salvation Army Kroc Center. We train you in everything from Behavior Management to Swim Safety so that you can be the best day camp counselor. Our campers range in age from 4-14, and participate in everything from field games to ice skating.
  • San Diego Humane Society - San Diego Humane Society is looking for candidates who support our mission to create a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and the people who love them.  As an open-admission shelter and one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the country, we not only care for more than 40,000 animals in our communities annually, but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide.

  • Urban Corps of San Diego County - Urban Corps of San Diego County serves as a bridge to a better life for young adults ages 18 to 26.  We provide paid job training, support services and a second chance to earn a high school diploma while offering a variety of professional services to the San Diego community.  Our Corpsmembers gain job skills through urban forestry, construction, recycling and other community projects. Whether improving a park, working in the San Diego River, removing graffiti or rehabilitating low-income homes, our Corpsmembers improve themselves while improving our region.
  • Workshops for Warriors - Workshops for Warriors (WFW) is a San Diego-based nonprofit school that provides accelerated 16-week training, nationally recognized certifications, and job placement in advanced manufacturing—specifically welding, CNC machining, CAD/CAM, and 3D printing—for veterans and transitioning service members. It bridges the gap between military service and high-paying civilian careers.
  • San Diego Theatres - San Diego Theatres employs over 200 San Diegans to assist in the management, marketing, operations and maintenance of the San Diego Civic Theatre in the heart of downtown and the historic Balboa Theatre in the Gaslamp Quarter.

  • Access, Inc. - Access is San Diego’s Youth Career Center, providing Job and career preparation services to youth and young adults from 14 to 24 in San Diego County. Services include Resume and application assistance, work preparation workshops, and one-on-one mentoring to help guide participants through their education and employment journey.
  • Advanced Manufacturing Institute San Diego (AMI-SD) - AMI-SD is a nonprofit organization that offers employment-skills training to unemployed, underemployed, and career-shifting residents of San Diego County seeking entry-level and mid-level positions in precision machining and related advanced manufacturing occupations.  We provide accelerated hands-on, real-world direct training in a positive, professional, and supportive environment
  • AGC Apprenticeship -  AGC Apprenticeship is a State and Federally approved Construction Apprenticeship
  • Associated Builders and Contractors Inc, San Diego - Free Apprenticeship for Construction Trades! We teach Electrical, Plumbing, Pipefitting and Sheet Metal to our Apprentices. We provide them with a paying job, medical, dental, vision and life benefits, and guaranteed pay raises through the duration of our program. Hands-on on-the-job training meets classroom education for a stable and well-paying career in the Trades.
  • California Conservation Corps - The California Conservation Corps is a youth workforce development program dedicated to preparing young adults for meaningful careers and educational opportunities.
  • City of San Diego, Office of Child and Youth Success - Office of Child and Youth Success was established to prioritize and help uplift children, youth, and families within the City of San Diego. The office serves to amplify and strengthen systems dedicated to youth so that the City ensures that San Diego's future is secured.  
  • City of San Diego, San Diego Public Library - The City of San Diego Public Library serves the informational, educational and recreational interests of San Diego through 36 branches, Central Library, the READ/San Diego literacy program and an online presence.
  • Computers 2 Kids - We empower communities to strengthen Health, Educational, and Economic Opportunity by refurbishing technology and providing affordable access and workforce training for the technologically underserved.
  • Eddie Teaches IT - Eddie Teaches IT provides life-changing training that helps students from almost any background break into an IT or Cybersecurity career. Students get personalized support every step of the way. With only one night class per week for 7 months and an affordable cost, a high paying and highly-rewarding tech career is within your reach.

  • iSERVE (International Service Education - Research Vision Empowerment) - iSERVE helps students plan their future through college application preparation, scholarships, and career guidance. Founder Bogdan "Bogey" Matuszynski supports young people figuring out their next steps—whether that's applying to college, finding scholarships, building a resume, or exploring careers in education, international relations, project development, and community service. We turn confusion into confidence.
  • Kitchens for Good - Our tuition-free apprenticeship programs support the whole individual, combining hands-on training with services that remove common barriers to success. Apprentices may receive stipends to offset living expenses, daily meals, and transportation assistance. We also provide job placement services to connect apprentices with employment, along with HR support to help them navigate workplace challenges, build stability, and thrive in their roles.
  • Laura Rodriguez Medical Assistant Institute - The LRMAI medical assisting program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as medical assistants in a variety of health care settings. Students study the structure and function of the major body systems, medical terminology, procedures that help health care providers diagnose and treat health issues, computer skills, administrative services and the processing of medical insurance forms and claims.
  • Outdoor Outreach - Outdoor Outreach Leadership Program is a paid training experience for young adults (ages 16 – 21) living in or around San Diego. Through weekly workshops and outdoor training experiences, participants learn and develop the skills needed to become leaders within the outdoor industry as well as within their own communities. This program has a focus on workforce development, civic engagement, and outdoor industry skills.
  • Outside The Lens - Outside The Lens (OTL) is a San Diego-based nonprofit that inspires young people to become storytellers and changemakers through media arts. Our K-12 and transitional age (18-24) students learn more than technical skills in digital photography, graphic design, filmmaking, and emerging media, they also develop expertise in critical thinking, creative expression, and visual literacy.
  • Paving Great Futures DBA Core 6 - Our mission is to increase the health and wealth of underserved communities in order for marginalized and at risk individuals to thrive socially, economically and politically.
  • San Diego Job Corps - San Diego Job Corps is a career training and education program for low-income young adults ages 16 through 24. We offer hands-on training in growing industries, education opportunities, housing, meals, and basic medical care all at no-cost.
  • UC San Diego CREATE Career Pathways Program - The UC San Diego CREATE Career Pathways Program (CPP) supports high school students in planning their high school coursework, exploring college and career opportunities, and preparing for their future through workshops, professional conversations, and engagement in our Discord community. CPP also helps students identify programs, internships, and work-based learning experiences and offers near-peer coaching from current UC San Diego students.
  • San Diego Workforce Partnership - The San Diego Workforce Partnership empowers young adults through career exploration, education, and paid work opportunities. Working with community leaders like SBCS, SDYS, Access, SPA Academy, and the YMCA HIRE program, we provide vital training and mentorship to help San Diegans navigate barriers and secure in-demand careers.
