79th Ocean Beach Kiwanis Childrens Kite Festival

The Ocean Beach Childrens Kite Festival, the oldest continuously running childrens kite festival in the US since its founding in 1948, returns Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Robb Athletic Field, offering a full day of family-friendly fun. The event features free kite-making workshops with expert instruction, open kite flying, age-group contests such as Best Decorated and Most Unique Kite, and spectacular professional kite-flying demonstrations set to music. Attendees also enjoy special games like Candy Drop, Chase the Tail, and kite races, along with a lively marketplace of local artisans, community booths, and a variety of food trucks and gourmet vendors.
Location: From Interstate 8 west, take the Sunset Cliffs Boulevard exit (the end of the freeway), make a left onto Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, a right onto West Point Loma Boulevard, and then a right onto Bacon Street. The field is accessible by bus via SDMTS Routes 35 and 923.
