Our Memorial ceremony will be on Monday, May 26th, 2025 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. (PDT)
The commemoration will honor Seaman Lakiba Nicole Palmer who was born in San Diego, Ca. She graduated from San Diego High School in 1996, where she was a star athlete. Following her graduation, Palmer enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 3, 1997. Tragically, on October 12, 2000, while the USS Cole was refueling in Aden, Yemen, a terrorist attack resulted in a massive explosion on the ship's port side. Seaman Palmer was among the 17 sailors who lost their lives in the attack. She was 22 years old.
In recognition of her service and sacrifice, several honors have been bestowed in her memory. The street where she grew up in San Diego's Chollas View neighborhood was renamed Lakiba Palmer Avenue.
Seaman Lakiba Nicole Palmer is remembered for her dedication, positive spirit, and the ultimate sacrifice she made for her country.
We will have musical performances, a wreath laying, and a missing-man flyby.
