The Crystal Pier Outrigger Canoe Race is a Southern California Outrigger Racing Association Race, hosted by Hanohano Canoe Club in San Diego, CA. The race draws 1500+ participants annually who battle in a 6-mile short course, novice and kids race as well as a 10-mile men, women and coed races in six person outrigger canoes. Come experience canoe racing and Hawaiian culture!
Location: The Crystal Pier Outrigger Race has been in Mission Bay since 1981. It is one of the top three outrigger races held in California. The event site is Crown Point Beach Park and 4 separate races are held throughout the day. Kids age 8 and up compete in morning races followed by novice paddlers. Open paddlers then race in a womens and co-ed race in the late morning followed by a men's race in the afternoon. Canoes launch from Crown Point Beach Park and racers tend to arrive prior to their assigned race division and often leave after. All participants bring their own beach chairs and belongings.
