University Community Library

University Community Branch Library will be temporarily closed effective Monday, August 18, 2025 due to facility improvements!

Hold requests will be transferred to North University Community Library.  If you would like to pick up your holds at a different library location, please call (858) 581-9637 or use the mobile app, SDPL To Go.

The book drop will be closed during the temporary closure. Patrons can return library materials and receive service at alternate Library Locations.

Built to serve the community of University City, the 10,000-square-foot facility opened in 1978 to replace a small but heavily used storefront library in a nearby shopping center. Community support for a stand-alone building helped bring this library into existence. Young adult materials are popular at this library, making up almost half of the circulating items. The library offers programs for patrons of all ages, including a monthly concert featuring local music performers and a weekly video game club for youth.
