Inspections

Program Information

The Inspection team is divided into two programs, the (1) Industrial/ Commercial Inspection program (Business Inspections) and (2) Structural Best Management Practices (SBMP) program. Both programs are required to meet the Municipal Stormwater Permit requirements. Their goal is to work alongside local businesses and owners of SBMPs to help them implement best management practices to do their part to prevent pollution from entering the City’s waterways.

    Business Inspections

The City requires all industrial and commercial facilities within its jurisdiction to implement Minimum Best Management Practices (BMPs) to prevent pollution and protect water quality. These BMPs are tailored to the specific site conditions and activities, with inspection frequencies based on the pollution potential of each facility. Pollution prevention is emphasized as the primary approach to reducing discharges into the storm drain system, with inspections and enforcement ensuring compliance. Structural Inspections

Structural best management practices (BMPs) are permanent stormwater treatment features built into the design of many newly developed or redeveloped properties to treat stormwater runoff before entering the City’s storm drain system or nearby waterway. These Structural BMPs need to be maintained regularly to continue functioning properly and as designed. As such, the City is required to verify proper maintenance of these Structural BMPs through Annual Maintenance Self-Verification and Periodic Structural BMP Maintenance Inspections.
