Media Identification Card (Press Badge)

The San Diego Police Department’s goal is to help and support media in doing their jobs. SDPD recognizes the critical role the media plays in delivering news that is both timely and transparent for the public.

Effective February 13, 2026, SDPD has discontinued the Media Identification Card (or Press Pass) Program and the associated parking placards. Read the official termination notice

SDPD will provide information to all officers on the laws governing media access to disaster areas, First Amendment activities, and how to identify media.

To expedite instances where identification may be needed, media members are encouraged to carry an ID card from their news agency or organization or a business card that may help verify their news affiliation.
