Climate Ready SD

What is Climate Ready SD?

Climate Ready SD will be the City’s new plan to help San Diego stay healthy, safe and strong as our climate changes. It will combine two existing plans, the Climate Action Plan and Climate Resilient SD, into a single, integrated plan. The goal is simple: prepare for climate impacts, reduce climate pollution, support healthier, more sustainable communities and improve daily life for all San Diegans.

Why is the City Preparing this Plan?

A lot has changed since Climate Resilient SD and the Climate Action Plan were adopted in 2021 and 2022. Climate Ready SD will make sure the City’s approach stays current and reflects the latest:

  • Climate hazard projections and emissions data
  • Community needs and priorities
  • State and federal laws and regulations
  • Efforts of partner agencies, utilities and businesses to deliver climate solutions
  • Funding and resource availability
  • Community needs and priorities

By combining the City’s efforts to prepare for climate hazards and reduce climate pollution, the City can better coordinate work, use resources more efficiently and deliver solutions that provide the most benefits and support more affordable, cleaner and safer communities.

Climate Ready SD will also identify when and how the City will report progress on implementing the plan.
