Dead Animal Removal

Please do not put dead animals in refuse collection containers.

Report a dead animal depending on where it is located:

City of San Diego Property and Roads

To report a dead animal located on City of San Diego property or within the public right-of-way, submit a request through the Get it Done app or call Environmental Services at 858-694-7000 from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The same number may be used to leave after-hours messages or report emergencies.

Unincorporated County Property and Roads

To request the removal of a dead animal from unincorporated County property or roads, contact the County of San Diego Department of Public Works Service Request Line at 858-694-3850. Visit the County Wildlife web page for more information.

State Freeways and Caltrans Property

The removal of dead animals from freeways and other State-maintained property is handled by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

Private Property

For deceased pets or dead animals located on private property, residents should contact their veterinarian or a business that specializes in animal removal and disposal for recommendations on the most appropriate disposal method.
