Trash Service Updates

Check when your new City containers are being delivered to your property by visiting our Container Delivery Look Up Tool.

Important Update from the Environmental Services Department

Beginning July 1, 2026, the City will no longer collect trash from black containers as part of the regular service route. Moving to City-provided gray bins helps us make sure only eligible households receive service, at the level they select, so that you only pay for what you need.

This change applies only to black containers. To receive trash collection, you must have a City-provided gray container at your property on your scheduled pickup day. Recycling and organic waste collection continues as scheduled.

Please take a moment to confirm you have the correct container color and size, so your trash collection is not interrupted. Confirm your service through the Residential Waste Collection Services Portal. Registration is easy and takes just a few minutes. If you do not have a login, you can register online or call 858-694-7000 for assistance.

Please remember: Only homeowners or property managers can request service changes, including container size, color or number of containers.

For Homeowners

If you already have a City-provided gray container, you are set. If you need a City-provided gray container, a different size or an additional container, only you can request those changes. Log in to the Residential Waste Collection Services Portal or call 858-694-7000.

For Renters

Service changes can only be requested by your homeowner, landlord or property manager. If you need a City-provided gray container or have questions about your service, please contact them as soon as possible so they can submit a request before July 1, 2026.
