Mesa Alliance Leadership Summit 2003

The Consortium have taken on the role of an Industry Partner for the Leadership Summit. Volunteers from the following member companies provided professional expertise and advice to the university, college, and pre-college students from Math & Engineering Science Achievement branches in San Diego:

In addition to staff volunteers, the firms also provided material support to the event. The students received leadership training and team-building skills contests at this all-day event, and the volunteers firms had the opportunity to make personal contact with engineering students in preparation for their future careers in San Diego. San Diego MESA Alliance (SDMA), a collaborative organization formed of the six sister programs from three MESA (Math Engineering Science Achievement) educational divisions, including:

  • Pre-College: San Diego State University (SDSU)
  • Community College: Cuyamaca College, San Diego City College, Southwestern College
  • University: SDSU, and UC San Diego.

The SDMA represents a K-16 pipeline for math, engineering and science. Collaboration is the operation theme for the Alliance; joint activities are the norm, rather than the exception, including academic counseling workshops, Academic Excellence Workshop facilitator training, university transfer days, mentoring, tutoring, recruitment, outreach, resume workshops, industry nights, career fairs, industry job shadowing, industry tours, and grant writing.
