Additional or replacement black trash, blue recycling and green organic waste recycling containers are available for City-serviced customers and can be purchased  with a credit card by contacting 858-694-7000 or trash@sandiego.gov. Containers can also be purchased with a credit card and picked up in person by visiting Environmental Services Department, Collection Services Division at 8353 Miramar Place, San Diego, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

City-issued containers are expected to have a lifespan of 10 years. If the container becomes defective before the 10-year warranty is up, a prorated fee will apply to the replacement. Learn more about customer container eligibility and standards of collection service.

Potential New Fees for Residential Trash and Recycling Collection

The City of San Diego is proposing a fee for City-provided solid waste management services. The proposed fee would apply to owners of single-family homes or multi-family residential homes eligible to receive City-provided solid waste management services. City Council is scheduled to consider the proposed Solid Waste Management Fees on June 9, 2025. If approved, a fee will be implemented on July 1, 2025.

The proposed fee may include the repair, replacement and delivery of trash, recycling and organics containers at no cost. If the fee and this additional service is approved, please note that all containers purchased prior to July 1, 2025, will not be eligible for a refund.
