Danielle Knighten, MBA, CICA, CFS

DEPUTY CITY AUDITOR

Danielle Knighten began employment with the City of San Diego in June 1997. She was a member of the Audit Division in the Auditor and Comptroller's Office until January 2006, at which time she transferred to the newly formed Mayor's Office of Ethics and Integrity (OEI). She returned to City Auditor's Office in October 2007.

During her tenure in Audit Division, Danielle planned, supervised, reviewed and evaluated work of other staff members performing a variety of audit functions; including high profile special investigations, grant-funded, operational, and investigative audits as well as special assignments. She was instrumental in the implementation of the Employee Hotline and managed the hotline during her tenure in OEI.

While in OEI, she performed special studies and prepared reports for management. She assisted in the development of policies and procedures for the employee hotline, provided statistical data and reports for management regarding the hotline. Danielle continually conferred with Deputy Chiefs, supervisors, department directors and others regarding issues and concerns within the City identified during an investigation or review of a complaint. She was also a member of the Intake and Review Committee that reviewed all the incident reports and their dispositions.

In September 2006, Danielle participated as a panelist in the Association of Government Accountants' First National Internal Control & Fraud Conference in Atlanta, GA.

Danielle has a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting. She is a Certified Internal Controls Auditor (CICA) and Certified Fraud Specialist (CFS). Danielle is also COBIT 5 Foundation Certified.
