Below are a few general information resources that may help residents in becoming urban farmers.

San Diego Public Library

The City of San Diego Public Library is a great resource for information regarding gardening, urban farms and related topics.

Water Conservation Garden

The City of San Diego is a co-sponsor of the Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College. Garden exhibits and staff can provide information and ideas about drought-tolerant plants and water-saving tips.

U.S. Department of Agriculture

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Alternative Farming Systems Information Center identifies resources regarding sustainable food systems and practices in support of the USDA's effort to ensure a sustainable future for agriculture and farmers worldwide. The USDA also offers an Urban Agriculture Toolkit with information to assist the urban farmer. 

University of California

The University of California has a lot of information regarding urban agriculture, with workshops, an online blog, details about community and school gardens, and much more.

KPBS

KPBS' local television program "A Growing Passion" explores backyard food production, major horticultural growers, low-water landscapes and sustainable practices around the home and in the garden. Past episodes are available online.

Victory Gardens

Victory Gardens San Diego is a program of the nonprofit San Diego Roots Sustainable Food Project. The program offers gardening classes to help San Diegans successfully grow their own food.
