The members of the San Diego Police Department strive to serve all members of our community including the LGBTQ+ community. We work collaboratively with our communities to have an understanding of what challenges the LGBTQ+ community may face, protect individual rights, and treat every person with dignity and respect. We are dedicated to providing the highest level of police service to all persons of all communities, including the LGBTQ+ community.

Training

The San Diego Police Department provides training in LGBTQ+ diversity to its officers and at the San Diego Regional Public Safety Institute consistent with AB2504. This training is focused on sexual orientation and gender identity, terminology, LGBTQ+ history, creating an inclusive workplace for LGBTQ+ within Law Enforcement, police responses and investigation to LGBT Domestic Violence or Hate Crimes, and the difference between sexual orientation and gender identity, including how these two aspects of identity relate to each other and to race, culture, and religion. The training is conducted by one male person, one female person and one transgender person.

The San Diego Police Department strives to treat all members of our community with dignity and respect. The San Diego Police Department has policies prohibiting officers from engaging in biased based policing, discriminating against any person based on race, religion, national origin, gender (to include gender identity and gender expression), lifestyle, sexual orientation or similar personal characteristics. The San Diego Police Department has a procedure on the interaction with persons who are Transgender and Gender Non-Binary to maintain a level of dignity, respect and fairness with members of those communities.
