Rancho Peñasquitos Library

The library building and bookdrop will be closed Sept. 1, 2026 with an anticipated reopening Fall 2027 for the Rancho Peñasquitos Library Improvements project. Holds will be moved to Carmel Mountain Ranch Library.

As the 30th library in the City of San Diego, the Rancho Peñasquitos Branch Library opened in 1992, replacing a much smaller temporary facility built in the early 1980s. Library supporters advocated for a larger building to serve this rapidly growing community. The current 20,650-square-foot library features an open layout with plenty of desks, study spaces, an outdoor courtyard, and a large indoor children's area. Students and youth comprise a large percentage of library users, giving the Rancho Peñasquitos Library one of the highest circulation patterns of all 36 City libraries.
