Rancho Peñasquitos Library Improvements

Project Background

The Rancho Peñasquitos Library building, located at 13330 Salmon River Rd., opened in 1992, replacing a much smaller temporary facility built in the early 1980s. Library supporters advocated for a larger building to serve this rapidly growing community. The current 20,650-square-foot library features an open layout with plenty of desks, study spaces, an outdoor courtyard, and a large indoor children's area.

Project Description
The Rancho Peñasquitos Branch Library repair project will provide needed improvements to the library’s parking lot, sidewalks, hardscape, landscaping, irrigation, exterior lighting, and building exterior. The project includes milling and overlaying much of the existing parking lot, restriping parking stalls to meet current City standards, moving ADA parking closer to the building, replacing lifted sidewalk panels, improving ADA slopes, reconstructing the driveway, replacing select trees causing sidewalk damage, installing new irrigation, and adding new landscaping around the library.

The project also includes exterior facility repairs such as resealing skylights, replacing parapet caps, repairing and repainting trellis ironwork and stair railings, replacing damaged exterior architectural panels and wall caps, repairing stucco and underlying materials, and repainting the exterior stucco. Due to the extent of construction, including work around the parking lot, sidewalks, entry path, landscaping, and building exterior, safe public access to the library will not be feasible during construction. The project design is complete, funding has been secured, and the construction-related closure is anticipated to be about 1 year.
