One of San Diego's first master planned communities, Tierrasanta was founded in 1971 and the first library opened in 1979 as a 1,200-square-foot building with just 6,000 volumes in the collection. Construction on a larger building began two years later and the current 8,766-square-foot library opened in 1984. Approximately 70,900 materials now make up the library's collection and, with several schools in the area, juvenile materials account for half of the annual circulation. The facility was designed with a meeting room that can be used after library hours.
