The City Attorney's Office is a municipal law firm with over 150 lawyers and approximately 220 support staff, dedicated to providing legal services to the City of San Diego. This website contains the most current information on employment opportunities in the Office.
The City Attorney handles employment applications only for law students, attorneys and unclassified management. The City's Personnel Department handles applications for all other legal positions including legal assistants/paralegals, investigators, and legal secretaries. Employees in these allied legal positions, like most city employees, are in the civil service system. Law students and attorneys hired by the City Attorney are not in the civil service system. They are political appointees who serve as at will employees.
