Mission Valley is an urban center of San Diego-- home to Hotel Circle and several major shopping centers. In addition, it is home to the San Diego River-- an important part of Mission Valley's character, which travels approximately 52 miles from the mountains of Julian to the Pacific Ocean at Dog Beach in Mission Bay Park. 

In 2023, Councilmember Campillo was pleased to announce that he has joined the Board of the San Diego River Park Conservancy, whose mission includes the protection of the San Diego River.
