The community of Serra Mesa is characterized by its distinct canyons, comprised of military multi-family housing, single-family homes, apartments and support retail. The community also includes a health-institutional complex anchored by Sharp and Children's Hospitals. 

In 2023, Councilmember Campillo joined I Love a Clean San Diego to help clean Ruffin Canyon and proclaim April 22nd as “21st Annual Creek-to-Bay Clean Up Day.” This marks another year of inspiring community engagement to prioritize the ecological preservation of the Serra Mesa area!  

Looking ahead, the easement and funding have been secured for Ruffin Trail and construction will begin in Fall 2024!
