Anthony Hackett was born in Long Beach, California. His father was in the Navy and led his family to live up and down the West Coast of the United States.  His family then moved abroad to several locations in the Pacific Rim including Hawaii, Japan, and the Philippines.  Anthony and his family lived in the Philippines for several years where he became fluent in Tagalog.  They then settled back in the southeastern area of San Diego in 1988.  Anthony grew up in the Lomita Village and Skyline communities, where he attended Audubon Elementary School, Keiller Middle School, and Morse High School.  He later attended Southwestern College in Chula Vista and then transferred to San Diego State University, graduating in May 2008.

In 2011, Anthony moved to Mission Valley where he became active in the community, including joining the Mission Valley Planning Group.  Anthony started his work in City Hall by working in the office of former District 8 Councilmember David Alvarez. There, Anthony served as a community representative and policy advisor to Councilmember Alvarez. In 2020, Anthony worked with the San Diego Housing Federation as a policy assistant where he was introduced to a variety of affordable housing policies.

Anthony returns to City Hall, now with the District 7 office, as a community representative. Anthony serves the communities of Allied Gardens, Grantville, Del Cerro, and San Carlos.
