Collection days depend on where you live in the City. Bins must be set out at the curb or alleyway by 6 a.m. for pickup.

Trash (black bin)
Trash is collected weekly, Monday-Friday, 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To help prevent litter in our neighborhoods, please bag or wrap all loose refuse material before you place it in your trash container.

Organic waste (green bin)
Organic waste is collected weekly, Monday-Friday, 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Please do not place organic waste in plastic bags, even if they are labeled compostable. Tips to keep your green bin clean: layer food scraps and food-soiled paper green waste with yard waste if possible, or place food scraps in a paper bag before placing it in the green bin.

Recycling (blue bin)
Recycling is collected every other week, Monday-Friday, 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Please discard items dry and loose not in a plastic bag.

2024 Holiday Schedule

No collection of City of San Diego trash, recyclables or organic waste on the following City-observed holidays:

Monday, May 27, 2024 - Memorial Day

Thursday, July 4, 2024 – Independence Day

Monday, Sept. 2, 2024 – Labor Day

Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024 – Thanksgiving Day

Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024 – Christmas Day

Starting on the day of the holiday, trash is collected one day later for the remainder of that week (For example, if the holiday falls on a Tuesday, trash/recyclables/organics scheduled for Tuesday collection will be picked up on Wednesday; Wednesday's collection services will happen on Thursday; Thursday's trash/recyclables/organics will be picked up on Friday; and Friday's trash/recyclables/organics will be collected on Saturday).
