National Engineer's Week

Career Advise Panel: Get a Job in Engineering

The Consortium hosted a live panel discussion of options and opportunities for students interested in a career in engineering. Present were volunteer hiring managers and professional engineers from these Consortium members:

Students were invited from SDMA, to have a free and open discussion with panel members about their resumes, interview techniques, and any other questions about a career in engineering. This event was FREE to all participants. Light refreshments were served.

The Consortium hosted a live panel discussion of options and opportunities for students interested in a career in engineering. Present were volunteer hiring managers and professional engineers from these Consortium members:

Students were invited from SDMA, from pre-college to just pre-career; they were able to have a free and open discussion with panel members about their resumes, interview techniques, and any other questions about a career in engineering. This event was FREE to all participants. Light refreshments were served.


San Diego MESA Alliance (SDMA), a collaborative organization formed of the six sister programs from three MESA (Math Engineering Science Achievement) educational divisions, including:

  • Community College: Cuyamaca College, San Diego City College, Southwestern College
  • University: SDSU, and UC San Diego.

The SDMA represents a K-16 pipeline for math, engineering and science. Collaboration is the operation theme for the Alliance; joint activities are the norm, rather than the exception, including academic counseling workshops, Academic Excellence Workshop faciliator training, university transfer days, mentoring, tutoring, recruitment, outreach, resume workshops, industry nights, career fairs, industry job shadowing, industry tours, and grant writing.


The History of Evening with Engineers

In February of 2002, MWWD & Water Department hosted a Job Fair jointly with the alumni chapter of NSBE in San Diego. The City provided the venue at MOC II, paid for catering, and set up the event complete with employer exhibits, a resume & interview tips panel consisting of human resources managers at member companies, and a speaker on job search skills provided by NSBE's local alumni chapter.
