The City, in partnership with the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition, is running a pilot program partially funded by the Caltrans Active Transportation Program to promote safe and healthy ways of getting around by holding four car-free, open street events in different communities across the city. From 2013 to 2022, and prior to the start of this pilot program, the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition hosted approximately 12 CicloSDias events at different locations throughout the city. 

The goal of this CicloSDias Pilot Program is to deliver a toolkit of best practices that other organizations or members of the community could utilize, following completion of this pilot program, to conduct self-funded, regularly recurring car-free street events in the city. The model toolkit will be developed based on lessons learned from holding the four pilot events. The pilot program also includes:

• Bicycle safety classes and other educational resources made available to the public during the events.

• Participant surveys to evaluate existing conditions along the routes of the four pilot events, plus two additional events to evaluate the biking and walking conditions along possible routes of future events.

CicloSDias Toolkit 

The City is also developing a toolkit for community organizations to plan, fund and host their own CicloSDias events in the future. The toolkit will be published on this webpage in late 2027.
