Heidi Hall lived alone in an apartment on Ohio Street and worked part-time as an exotic dancer.

On July 11, 1997, a landlord entered Halls apartment to check on her after neighbors voiced concerns about not seeing her for several days. Hall had been strangled to death. The neighbor found Hall's body lying on her bed in an advanced state of decomposition.
