Minutes

Note to Researchers:

Since 1850 the City Clerk has prepared the official Minutes of the meetings of elected officials managing the City of San Diego, especially the City Council, including the Board of Trustees, the Board of Alderman and the Board of Delegates. The Minutes are summaries of the meetings, not verbatim accounts, that document the official actions of the Council. Minute Books are also called Record Books.

This Volume, 1850 - 1874 Minutes and Ordinances (06/17/1850 to 11/04/1874) was transcribed (typed) from the original manuscript and certified as a true and correct copy by the City Clerk on June 15, 1918. This transcription was scanned on January 21, 2014 and posted to the internet on October 25, 2016. Researchers should note that some typed document inserts were posted over the transcription on pages 117, 157 and 161. The pages were scanned twice, once with the insert covering the transcription and once with the insert folded away from the page. This double scan ensured that the entire records were complete but added pages to the page count of the scanned version of the Minutes.

Also, the original transcription contains some handwritten notations in pen and pencil, including insertions of full names to initials, corrections of typos, check marks, numbers for tracking ordinances in the margins and other explanatory notes such "-=Mission Bay" after "False Bay". The original typed transcription includes a certified insertion of pages 162-A to 162-V with page numbers on the upper right-hand corner affecting the total page count.

Citation should include the printed page number, the title, and City Clerk's Archives, City of San Diego.

The volume was leather-bound with 5 posts through pre-cut slots in 11.5" x 18" paper. Currently, the volume is stored in a custom acid-free box in the City Clerk's Archives.
