Councilmember Mark Kersey and

joined Shoal Creek Elementary School children
to celebrate the completion of the
Ted Williams Parkway pedestrian bridge.

On September 4, 2014, Assemblymember Brian Maienschein, Congressman Duncan D. Hunter's District Deputy Director Michael Harrison, City of San Diego Councilmember Mark Kersey, and Public Works Department Director James Nagelvoort hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the pedestrian bridge over Ted Williams Parkway. The distinguished guests were joined by representatives from Poway Unified School District, City of San Diego staff, and community members who collaborated to bring this project to completion.

"I am pleased the Ted Williams Pedestrian Bridge is complete and ready for use by the children and residents in our community. The safety of our children is one of my highest priorities. I was proud to be engaged in the early stages of this project and was able to allocate the initial $25,000 necessary to fund the feasibility study. The study showed that the bridge was necessary and today the bridge is a reality," said Assemblymember Brian Maienschein.

"This is more than a bridge. It is the tangible result of parents and school leaders being proactive and working tirelessly toward having a positive impact in our community. It is the fruition of a mission to remain committed to our responsibility to protect our children. It is the reflection of the determination and character of this community to refuse to accept the consequences of apathy and bureaucracy. Congressman Hunter is honored to have been a small part of this effort," said Michael Harrison.

"Thanks to the persistence of residents who were committed to community safety, the Ted Williams Pedestrian Bridge will give kids and families peace of mind when walking across this busy intersection. I'm especially appreciative of the community's patience during the construction process and I know the final project is something of which we can all be proud," said Councilmember Kersey.

The infrastructure of this beautiful bridge is a model for the future. The bridge created a safer route for bicyclists, pedestrians, and the area elementary school children to cross the busy six-lane road at Shoal Creek Drive
