Financing Habitat Aquisition and Management

The analysis of MSCP costs and alternative funding programs is based on the splitting of acquisition costs between the federal and state governments and local jurisdictions, and the sharing of costs and responsibilities for preserve management and biological monitoring. Funding of the local costs will be carried out on a regional basis, and local elected officials have established the policy that any regional funding for the MSCP will be submitted to the voters for approval.

This program focuses on the following priority areas of the Strategic Plan:

Champion Sustainability

Continuously pursues grants and utilizes funds in the City’s Habitat Acquisition Fund to make proactive purchases of critical open space land to build out the City’s open space preserve, ensuring that critical habitat is preserved.


Foster Regional Prosperity

Ensures implementation of the resource conservation planning and habitat preserve by identifying core biological resource areas targeted for conservation.
