Familiarizing Yourself with the Requirements

Permanent BMP Requirements

If you have determined that your project is a Standard Development Project (Page 17 of Storm Water Standards) (PDF), then all applicable requirements are found in Chapter 3 of the Storm Water Standards (Page 19) (PDF).

If you have determined that your project is a Priority Development Project (Page 13 of Storm Water Standards) (PDF), then all applicable requirements are found in Chapter 4 of the Storm Water Standards (Page 27) (PDF).

Construction BMP Requirements

The City of San Diego requirements for Construction BMPs are found in Chapter 5 of the Storm Water Standards (Page 63) (PDF). For larger sites, as defined within the following document, may be subject to additional State requirements under the Construction General Permit.

Dewatering

If your project will require temporary dewatering during constrution or permanent dewatering after it is built, then additional regulations apply. These are beyond the scope of this website. Therefore, it is advised that you consult with a knowledgeable professional or contact the Regional Water Quality Control Board. It is illegal to discharge non-storm water into the City of San Diego storm drains unless exempted by San Diego Municipal Code Section 43.0305 (Page 5).
