The Land Development Code (LDC) contains regulations for the development and use of property in the City of San Diego, by providing information on zoning, subdivision, and other related land use items. In December 1997, the City Council adopted a comprehensive update to the LDC. During the adoption hearings, the Council directed that a Code Update Team be established to monitor and continually update the code to address new issues and unforeseen challenges not anticipated as part of the comprehensive update process. The Council recognized the importance of code revisions, including eliminating unnecessary barriers, to simplify and streamline the permitting process. Through these regular updates, the LDC will be more responsive to address the City’s changing land use needs.
