Trash Service Fee Calculator
Use this calculator to estimate your monthly trash service fee based on the City of San Diego's updated trash collection pricing. Select one of the available trash container bundle options and add any extra containers you may need to view your total monthly cost.
Prices shown reflect the City's adopted fee schedule. New rates take effect July 1, 2026 (Fiscal Year 2027). Reduced rates approved by the San Diego City Council take effect July 1, 2027 (Fiscal Year 2028) and July 1, 2028 (Fiscal Year 2029). Rates for FY2026 and FY2027 are not impacted by the reduction, so refunds are not available for fees paid during those years.
While this calculator shows the monthly rates, it's important to note that the City intends to collect the fee via the County tax roll. Customers would pay the fee in the same way they pay their annual property taxes. Typically, property taxes are paid in one lump payment, as two installments, or monthly as part of a mortgage payment.
Please note, the price of your base bundle is determined by the size of the trash container (City-provided gray bin) you select.
Smaller containers for recycling and organics are available for your base bundle and additional containers upon request (65-gallon and 35-gallon); however, smaller recycling and organics containers will be provided at the same rate as the 95-gallon option.

Each bundle includes one trash container, one 95-gallon recycling container and one 95-gallon organics container. The July 1, 2027 and July 1, 2028 columns show the reduced FY2028 and FY2029 fees.
