Parks & Recreation
The City in partnership with San Diego Futures Foundation offers FREE in-person technology classes for people of all skill levels. Don't have a computer or mobile device? One can be provided to you during the class or you can purchase a low-cost device offered through the program. One-hour classes are available at Park de La Cruz Recreation Center, select City libraries and the Sherman Heights Community Center.
Relax, socialize and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with your peers at the Balboa Park Lounge or Park de la Cruz Community Center . The Senior Lounge is located in beautiful Balboa Park at the Casa Del Prado building, 1650 El Prado, room 105. Lounge open hours are Tuesdays thru Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Park De La Cruz Café is open on Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 12:30p.m.
The City is collaborating with Serving Seniors to provide hot, nutritious lunches to adults ages 60 and older each weekday from noon to 1 p.m. at Park de La Cruz Community Center.
Meals are provided at no cost to eligible seniors, but voluntary contributions of $1.00 are appreciated. Guests under the age of 60 will be charged $4.00 for their meal.
AgeWell Services quarterly trips are put on hold until further notice.
AgeWell Services annual special events include the Photo Exhibit and Contest, Art Exhibit and Contest, Talent Show, and a Craft Sale.
Dances, with live entertainment, are held on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at the Balboa Park Club Ballroom, for a minimal fee.
Volunteers are essential to the success of the AgeWell Services office, activities, the Senior Lounge in Balboa Park or Café at the Park de la Cruz Community Center, as well as the dances and special events. Please contact Sharon Moninger, at 619-525-8247, if you would like to volunteer.
